With so many catalogues on the market, it’s easy to revert to familiar sources for design projects. The problem is, everything starts looking the same. My solution is to go custom. It allows me to order a sofa, chair or headboard in the exact style, size, fabric and fill that I need. I encourage clients who have the time to come and see their furniture being made. There’s something about having a quality piece created locally that just feels good. The look is original and it’s not as expensive as you might think.
My favourite source for custom furniture is Silva Custom Furniture. I dropped by last week to check out some of the company’s new designs. My sales rep Shari Elson knows her stuff. I wish everyone in the design business was as professional as she is! Here are a few new pieces that caught my eye.
The Mayfair bench is new this year – - love this colour. Wouldn’t it be perfect in a dining room or kitchen nook? Elegant and inviting — an often elusive combo!
The Jackie chair is fun in pink. Great for a living room or library. Truly comfortable.
The Dutchess Queen Headboard is new. The side panels create a cocoon-like feeling that I love in a bedroom.
The dor dor condo sofa is one of those pieces that works well in a small space.
Here’s the Henry coffee table/ottoman in a custom walnut finish with slated bottom. I could see this piece working beautifully in a family room or library.
The Maddox sofa has the same pin tucking detail as Henry. A nice variation on traditional tufting.
The Mercer is another new sofa style this year. I like it’s clean lines.
Here’s Chase in a Robert Allen Dwell Studio fabric.
The Grant sofa is another new style. This one has a nice deep comfy feel to it. Love the name.
The Bo chair is a great choice if you’re working with a large space.
The Anderson sofa has a sleek timeless appeal. A good choice. This look never seems to go out of style.
